The Annual Kyleakin to Kyle Swim which was inaugurated to mark the opening of the Leisure Centre in Kyle was held on Saturday 11th August, on a  glorious afternoon of sunshine and flat calm conditions. 14 Swimmers took part,  several of them for the first time, and the impressively quick times by all reflected the conditions, which were ideal. First swimmer home was Cathy Kitson Jones of Plockton followed very closely by Gilleasbuig Ferguson. In all eight of the swimmers taking part were first timers and all acquitted themselves well. The race was started by Alasdair Bremner who retired as Secretary of the Swimming pool Board of Trustees several years ago, and it was his brain child to use the swim to mark the facilities success. The race was sponsored by Hugh Macquarrie of Central Filling Station in Kyle, and Hugh, his wife Margaret, and Alasdair presented the K2K Quaichs to the first Lady and first Gent, and also a memento to all who took part. It is worth mentioning that two swimmers, Chris Dibble and Jason Hammond had, a couple of hours before the swim, completed the Skye Bridge 10 K, Jonathon mackinnon was competing for the seventh time, and Fionnuala Stark from Lochcarron has swum in 13 of the 15 swims since it’s inauguration, surely a statistic to be immensely proud of. At the prize giving ceremony Manager Chris Mackinnon also thanked the local RNLI , Qinetiq, and the South Skye Kayak club for supplying excellent safety cover. Without their support it would be impossible for the event to go ahead. All the sponsorship money raised by the swimmers will go towards the purchase of a New Spa Bath for the facility.

Every one who finished did VERY well - congratulations to all who took part AND those who helped with support and organisation
